MEDIA RELEASE: Elexia Communications appoints former Yahoo executive Simon Wheeler as Senior Counsel and Head of Digital

Elexia Communications, Australia’s leading renewable energy media and communications agency, has appointed Simon Wheeler to the position of Senior Counsel and Head of Digital.

Simon will advise Elexia’s growing list of energy clients and lead the agency’s digital offering as part of targeted, multi-platform campaigns.

Principal Consultant Mike Duffy said Wheeler’s appointment will provide Elexia with the expertise to conduct sophisticated digital campaigns for clients facing critical issues in Australia and across the region.

“Simon had a formidable reputation as a journalist and has carved out a stellar career as a senior executive in global digital news and social media. His appointment begins a new phase in Elexia’s development,” Duffy said.

“As the digital world is now delivering the channels with primary influence, Simon’s expertise is in strong demand. We are thrilled to have been able to secure his appointment for Elexia Communications.”

Wheeler brings nearly three decades of media experience and more than 10 years in digital storytelling and audience engagement to this newly created role. He is a thought-leader in the application of AI and how it will impact reputation and public narratives.

Before joining Elexia, Wheeler was a Senior Director at Yahoo, one of the world’s largest digital media and product companies and was responsible for teams of content creators across Australia, South East Asia and India.

He has previously held positions as a news executive at News Corp and the Daily Mail Group (DMG), in the UK and in Australia.

“I am delighted to be joining Elexia at such an exciting time in the company’s growth story,” Wheeler said.

“The renewable energy transition is one of the biggest challenges and opportunities this country faces and I am excited to play a part in informing and shaping the discussion.

“Digital media, in all its forms and across a multitude of platforms, is fast overtaking traditional print media as the most effective way of communicating with audiences and reaching stakeholders.

“Elexia’s investment in this area and focus in this space cements its position at the forefront of communication trends.”
